(Working On A Title) Wednesday -New Years Day, Remastered Games, BingeGameCast
New Years Day
New Years Day (NYD) may be my favorite day of the year. At least it has become that over the last few years thanks to a tradition my wife and I started. Each NYD we rise when we absolutely have to and head to the kitchen to prepare some eggs, potatoes, mimosas, and a giant bowl of freshly cut fruit. We then head to the comfort of our couch as we kick off the new year with a 5 movie marathon. Later on dinner is delivery from our favorite local Thai restaurant. There is absolutely no better way to start the year. All the holiday hoopla is now over and we finally get a day of decompression and movie watching. This year’s marathon featured Frozen, The Skeleton Twins, This Is Where I Leave You, Boyhood, and Let’s Be Cops. Another solid outing and of these I highly recommend The Skeleton Twins, This Is Where I Leave You and Boyhood.
Remastered Games
Many years ago when Playstation first hit the market it carried with it a plethora of titles that I would long to play, but ultimately never would. All because of a fucking controller. The analog sticks have always been too loose for my liking and when you are a big fan of the FPS genre this is a huge deal breaker. Between that and the Halo franchise I have been primarily an Xbox guy. Because of this I have missed out on some excellent exclusive titles, most of which have gone on to become fantastic franchises, but the one I’m excited to talk about today is Resident Evil. On January 20th Resident Evil will be rereleased in glorious HD for PS4, PS3, XB360, XBONE and PC and I am very happy about this. When Resident Evil first hit the scene it was a multi disc set, everyone was raving about it, and I spent a total of about 30 minutes with the game. Did I mention I wasn’t even playing? Before heading home from a friends one night I watched him play the opening of the game and not only was I blown away by the look and how the story was starting but also that it was creepy as fuck. It would be the game that would popularize the horror genre into gaming forever and I missed it due to a hardware design flaw, but thanks to technology I will finally get to experience it’s glory and I can’t wait. It also got me rethinking the remastered games craze. Up until now most if not all games that were remastered and rereleased, if an exclusive, stayed with that console/system, this is the first time where I can remember a game, at least one as popular as this, being released on additional systems and if you ask me this is how it should be done. The reason you have exclusive titles is to sell hardware, so while the hardware is still relevant you would understandably want to keep that property away from any competing hardware companies. However, when that hardware is obsolete and you decide you want to bring back an exclusive title for the new consoles/systems why would you not bring it back for all of them? In this digital age your overhead is minimum and you’ll easily gain more profit by doing so, plus gamers like myself get to finally enjoy a universally acclaimed title on their preferred system. I’m glad someone’s getting it and hopefully it leads to more games like this down the line.
