This column will introduce you to the most popular movies that are coming out in theaters this weekend.

47 Meters Down

While vacationing in Mexico, two sisters get trapped in a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean.  With only an hour worth of oxygen left, these sisters must fight to survive.  Starring in this shark attack flick are Mandy Moore, Clair Holt, Matthew Modine and more.  Johannes Roberts is the writer and director of this thriller.  Roberts is signed on to direct The Strangers 2 for 2018.  If you love shark movies like Law, then go check this out.

All Eyez on Me

This biographical drama tells the story of the famous rapper, Tupac Shakur.  Tupac is played by Demetrius Shipp Jr., while the other cast includes Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries), Annie Ilonzeh (Empire), and Jamal Woolard, who played Biggie Smalls in Notorious.  Benny Boom who has directed several music videos and TV episodes, directs this film.  Go set your eyez on this film this weekend.

Cars 3

Cars 3.  Moving on.  Lending their voices for part 3 are Owen Wilson, Chris Cooper, Nathan Fillion, Larry the Cable Guy, Armie Hammer, Tony Shalhoud, Bonnie Hunt, and more.  Brian Fee is behind the wheel as co-writer and director.  This is Fee’s first time writing and directing, however, has been a storyboard artist for Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, and Cars 2.  Now, get in your car and see Cars 3 this weekend.

Rough Night

During a wild bachelorette party, five female friends accidentally kill a male stripper.  Sounds like a female remake (or a femake) of Very Bad Things.  Starring in this female led cast are Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz, Kate McKinnon, Demi Moore, Jillian Bell, Ty Burrell, Illana Glazer, and more.  Lucia Aniello co-writes and directs this feature.  Aniello has written and directed episodes for Broad City and she is also signed on to co- write a 21 Jump Street Spin-off.  Having a rough night?  Then go see Rough Night tonight.

A Cure for Wellness

Reasons to see this:

This film is about a young executive who travels to a “wellness center” in a remote location in the Swiss Alps to bring back his CEO.  However, the wellness center is not what it appears to be.  Dun Dun Dun.  Starring in this mysterious thriller are Dane DeHann (Chronicle), Jason Isaacs, Mia Goth (Nymphomanic: Vol II), Celia Imrie (Bridget Jones’s Diary) and more.  Gore Verbinski directs as he makes his return to the the dark thriller genre.  Since The Ring, Verbinski has directed 3 Pirates movies, The Weather Man, starring Moreno, I think, Rango, and The Lone Ranger.  Need a Cure for this weekend?  Then check out A Cure for Wellness.

 Fist Fight

Reasons to see this:

Fist Fight is about a teacher who wants to fight another teacher for getting him fired.  Ice Cube and Charlie Day play the two teachers.  Also starring in this comedy are Christina Hendricks, Jillian Bell (The Night Before), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), and more.  Richie Keen is the director of this flick.  Keen has directed many episodes for TV shows, such as The Goldbergs, Maron, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Shameless, and more.  Don’t get into a fist fight this weekend.  Go see Fist Fight.

The Great Wall

Reasons to see this:

Matt Damon stars as William Garin, a mercenary who must fight and defend the Great Wall from monstrous beasts.  Also starring are Willem DaFoe, Tian Jing, Pedro Pascal, Andy Lau, and more.  Yimou Zhang directs this action adventure fantasy flick.  Zhang has directed Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and many more.  Go see The Great Wall at a great theater this weekend.
