Binge Movie Aftertaste – Quentin Tarantino Retrospective w/ Jack Falvey and Alyx Ancira: Pulp Fiction (1994)
He is one of the most influential filmmakers of our generation. If Steven Spielberg ruled the 80s, it is safe to say Quentin Tarantino owned the 90s. His story is almost as famous as his observations of the ways of European McDonalds. A video store clerk who used a few big breaks to his full advantage. But as myself, Jack, and Alyx go through his resume in this retrospective, we will observe whether that still stands true today. We will also review his brand new film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and answer whether it is as good as its trailers look.
It’s called a sophomore slump for a reason. Many times, filmmakers come out of the box swinging with a movie that is adored not only by critics, but a vast majority of the movie going public. But their next film lands with a thud, as the same critics who praised that filmmaker before keep asking if they were a one trick pony. Richard Kelley, I’m looking at you.
Leave it to Quentin Tarantino to put an end to the myth of said slump. Though he did highly doubt he could do it, Tarantino’s second effort Pulp Fiction arrived and was immediately praised as not only the best film from his resume, but also one of the best movies ever made.
Join myself, Jack, and Alyx as we examine that bold statement, and give our own stories of how we came upon it, as well as if it lives up to being as loved as it is. And keep checking back, as this retrospective will end with a review of Tarantino’s next work, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
