With the passing of Adam West, we thought it would be only fitting to take this week’s Small Screen Heroes and do a commentary track for the grand daddy of all super-hero films, Batman the Movie, based off the classic Batman 66 TV series. Batch enlists Adam Bunch to be his Boy Wonder (eww gross) and the dynamic duo wax nostalgic about the flick as well ask the important questions like: What’s with all the obvious signage? How much poon is Alfred slaying by cruising around in the Batmobile when Bruce isn’t looking and exactly how much coke is the Riddler on right now?
On this week’s Small Screen Heroes, Batch wrangles up Kupka and the two talk about the upcoming wonder woman flick. Batch bombs galore are dropped about Wonder Woman’s history, her beginnings in the 1940s through the 70s and how the character has evolved in the modern era. They also go over the 70s TV show, how DC is continuing that show in their current digital comics and what the new stand alone Wonder Woman film had to go through over the years on its long path from page to big budget summer spectacular.
In comic TV round up, Kupka goes more in depth about this season of Agents of Shield and how awesome Ghost Rider was this season. Batch talks about the finales of Supergirl, Flash, Arrow and Riverdale,
Other topics this week include the Zack Snider-Joss Whedon hand off of the Justice League movie and how it may potentially change the stigma of how that film is received by the hardcore fanbase. How do you think Tom Hardy would do as Venom? Let us know.
On this week’s Small Screen Heroes, Batch is joined by the returning Adam Bunch! The 2 Whovians (big nerds) have a spoiler filled recap of episode 1 “The Pilot” and episode 2 “Smile” of the new 10th season of Doctor Who. With this being Peter Capaldi’s final season as the doctor, there is a lot of speculation about who will replace him. So we give our predictions and speculate what will happen for the rest of the season. Also, are we totally sure that Nate Peterson isn’t really the doctor’s new companion Nardole?
We also cover Titan publishing’s new Doctor Who line of comics and the total radness of the big finish radio play that’s featured in all the classic docs reprising their roles and telling untold stories with full production values.
The crossover event entitled “The Button” has started and we cover parts 1 and 2 in the new issue of The Flash and Batman and break down how it’s going to effect the DCU in the months to come.
Somewhere Jack is yelling this is bullshit.
And finally we do a quick review of the new DC animated movie Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, there is a update on the goings on on Marvels Secret empire event with evil Hydra Captain America making his move and we address the recent controversy Marvel had with X-men Gold number one and the subliminal art messages the artist tried to sneak in.
Are you excited about Doctor Who returning? Are you fuming like Jack Valley that Batman got his ass royally kicked by the reverse Flash?
Season 1 of Legion is in the books and on this week’s Small Screen Heroes, Batch is joined by Jack Valley aka Johnny cupcakes aka Smash Valley aka MovieFreak to give you their SPOILER FILLED thoughts on this groundbreaking season. From the style, to the music, to the characters, all things Legion are discussed and much joy is expressed. Batch also breaks down David Heller’s comic history as well as the history of the Shadow King and how they differ from the show.
It’s been a big week for comic book movie news as well, so we discuss the breaking news of Joss Whedon Batgirl movie and can Joss possibly save DC comic movies and get the films out of the suck hole that is the zack snider verse.
And finally how the hell can you have a Venom movie without Spider-man?
Did you love Legion as much as we did? What Legion based stories from the comics are your favorites? Let us know in the comments below
More comic TV shows have started, which means that Batch watches all of them so the rest of the staff don’t have to. The first few episodes of Legion and Riverdale are reviewed and we give you the lowdown on what is good and what is terrible.
Batch is joined by friend to all Denny Luis to talk about how awesome Marvel’s current lineup of Star Wars books are and why everyone should be reading them.
Marvel’s next event Secret Empire is upon us and we give you the low down on what it’s all about and why Steve Rogers being a undercover hydra agent is kinda rad. There’s also a pretty important tie in in the new issue of Deadpool.
We also get into Ben Affleck not wanting to be Batman anymore, Mel Gibson possibly directing Suicide Squad 2, My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, DC’s Young Animal imprint and Warren Ellis new Wildstorm reboot and just sick we are of reboots in general.
This issue of SSH has the artist of Image series Southern Cross, Andy Belanger, join us to talk the origins of his amazing series, his story in the new issue of Heavy Metal entitled The Simulationists, as well his gig on a upcoming arc in the new WWE comic. We also discuss his love of wrestling in general and how he has actually became a pro wrestler himself on the Montreal wrestling scene.
We are then joined by Jim Law and we go in depth and have a SPOILER filled discussion about the graphic novel Black Hole, who we would want to make a live action version, and much more.
Happy 2017 party people,
Small Screen Heroes has a very special year in review show for you. I had to recruit the one and only Binge timestamper and biggest Spiderman fanboy I know, Logan Fowler, to recap what is awesome and what sucked babadick this year in terms of comic based properties.
From the awesome of Deadpool to the dumpster juice that is Batman vs Superman, this was a banner year for comic movies. The inner geek in me is happy we can actually have a Suicide Squad movie, or that Doctor Strange, of all characters, can not only carry a movie but also be a pivotal part of Marvel film universe. We also saw Spiderman come back huge as part of Civil War.
Looking forward, 2017 sees the return of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Justice League and Thor kicking ass with Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok. Plus, Hugh Jackman goes full tilt berserker like we all have wanted to see him in Logan, the film based off the classic old man Logan storyline from Wolverine.
Also on this week’s show, we cover the huge first two issues of Justice League Vs Suicide Squad events. SPOILERS. I fill Logan in on what’s been going on in the Spiderman: Dead No More storyline with the return of everyone’s favorite Spiderman clone Ben Reilly. The Timestamping Wonder also gives us his review of the Nintendo Mini Classic in some gaming talk we couldn’t fit in on the last gamecast.
I’d like to take a second to mention some good that actually did happen in 2016. You guys have helped Small Screen Heroes be a thing at Binge Media, and as we continue to carve out our own niche here, I’d like to thank everyone who’s come on this show to shoot the shit and geek out with me last year. I promise, 2017 will be even more nerdier, more rantier and, well, I challenge Garrett to come on this show and tell me how terrible everything is. Maybe Smallville talk will tempt him.
The mother of all crossovers is here and gone and Small Screen is here to give you the what whats and Whos Whos on what the hell went down in the 3 parter. Batch is joined by cub reporter Denny Luis and Batch drops Batch Bombs galore on the Flash, Arrow and Legends of tomorrow episodes.
In breaking news, the new Spiderman movie teaser trailer made its way online and people are losing their shit about 30 seconds of footage so Batch is joined by Jack Falvey and they speculate on where the real trailer is going and then mark out all over the new Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 trailer.
Lastly its that time of year so the boys reflect on their fave Christmas specials, the infamous Star Wars christmas special and their favorite christmas flicks and try to come to terms with what exactly makes a movie that has Christmas in it a Christmas movie or not a Christmas movie, in the first of what i’m sure will be many discussions about holiday flicks on Binge Media.
On this episode of Small Screen Heroes, I enlist my Binge GameCast brethren Jack and Kupka to talk some Doctor Strange and how it adds a new dimension (pun intended) to the Marvel film verse. We now have seen 4 of the 5 Infinity stones in Marvel films, and that Infinity gauntlet is coming soon.
We then segue into Marvel TV with the announcement of the new Inhumans series coming to ABC and if it will lay on the foundation that Agents of Shield has introduced.
The 4 part crossover of the DC/CW-verse is quickly approaching, and I’m excited. Kupka and Jack could give 2 shits.
Wrapping up the episode, I give a quick little spotlight of the classic 80s DC character, The Vigilante, as he has now made his way onto the 5th season of Arrow. Adrian Chace was a very tragic character in the late 80s DC universe and his arc was really something you didn’t see a lot of in books at that time. Plagued by guilt and madness, whether what he was doing was right or wrong, what could have been a one dimensional Punisher knock off went the opposite way. As he struggles to fight his destiny, then seeing it swallow him whole, it really hit me hard. It’s definitely a book not many people know about and doesn’t get the acclaim it should, so it’s very cool it’s making its way in some small measure to TV.
