PETEMSEE IT THIS WEEKEND – 6/8/17

This column will introduce you to the most popular movies that are coming out in theaters this weekend.

What movie will you see?

The Hero

The Hero, starring Sam “the stash” Elliott is about an ailing movie star who comes to terms with his past.  Also starring in this dramedy are Laura Prepon, Nick Offerman, Krysten Ritter, and more.  Brett Haley is the writer and director of this flick.  Haley has directed many shorts and a full length flick called I’ll See You in My Dreams.  Go be a Hero and see The Hero in theaters to save your local theater before they are all gone.  Thanks.

It Comes at Night

These studios know how to release horror movies….right in the beginning of June.  Perfect.  It Comes at Night (gross), tells the story of 2 families colliding and posting up in a desolate house in the woods trying to escape some kind of terror.  Is the terror outside or is it the paranoia that builds in this house?  Joel Edgerton is the most popular actor in this film, while Trey Edward Shults writes and directs this horror thriller.  Shults has written and directed a few shorts, such as Krisha, Two to One, and Mother and Son.  Go to the theater at night to see It Comes at Night.

Megan Leavey

Based on a true story, Megan Leavey is about a young Marine coporal and her combat dog, who save many lives during the war in Iraq.  Megan Leavey is played by Kate Mara, while the rest of the cast includes Tom Felton, Bradley Whitford, Common, Edie Falco, Will Patton, and more.  Gabriela Cowperthwaite is the director of this biographical drama.  Cowperthwaite wrote and directed the famous killer whale documentary, Blackfish.  It’s time to Leave the house to see Megan Leavey in theaters.

The Mummy

The Mummy, if you did not know, is a reboot/remake of the famous and classic Universal Monster movie property, so I am sure you can guess how this plot goes.  Anyway, this cast includes Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story) and more.  Alex Kurtzman co-wrote and directed this action adventure flick.  This is Kurtman’s directorial, theatrical, blockbustorial debut.  However, Kurtzman has some serious writting credits, such as Mission Impossible III, Star Trek (2009), Cowboys & Aliens, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and much more.  He is also signed on to write Bride of Frankenstein, which possibly stars Javier Bardem as Frankenstein’s Monster and Angelina Jolie as The Bride.  Go check out this flick this weekend.
