As a special treat, and a spur of the moment interview, Adam Simon was gracious enough to sit down with Jack to talk a little bit about Point Blank, his new film out today on Netflix.
Starring Frank Grillo, Anthony Mackie, Marcia Gay Harden and a great cast, we’re always interested and willing to get Simon on the air waves here at Binge to talk shop. Give this a listen and find out a little about the film, supplementary Mormon cinema and just how terrible films would be if studios completely gave in to SJW nonsense.
Welcome to this solo edition of the Binge Movie Aftertaste. Having to follow through on my promise to Matthew GOUDREAU to give him a week off -which turned into two, you’re welcome Matt- I go into this show with a great guest. Old Binge buddy Adam Simon is back to update us on all his projects.
After I spend the beginning portions of this show talking up one of my favorite bands Ladytron and going a little on my soap box about recent movie going experiences, I get Adam on the line to discuss similar experiences he’s had. After that, we go into what he’s been up to including but not limited to his upcoming The Raid remake. We also include stories about his experiences with Joe Carnahan, Joe Lynch, Anthony Mackie, Twitter battles with Lexi Alexander, and so much more that I cannot do justice without you listening to this interview. So what are you waiting for?
Thanks once again to Adam for his time, and I’ll be waiting for that invite buddy.
Check back next week when we start our Hunger Games Retrospective!
Another year, another Aftertaste check in with our man Adam Simon. But this one was much differently conceived than before, While trying to brainstorm who to have with me to discuss the hot topic of what the whole Harvey Weinstein mess means for Hollywood in general, I didn’t think long to come up with Adam’s name. And much to my surprise, when I brought it up to him he was more than willing to delve deep into how this affects the entire industry. He also has his own personal Kevin Spacey story. And in light of what has come out about him in the last few months, it leaves a chill down your spine.
But that’s not all. We also talk about our opinions of the newly released Justice League, the current state of comic book films, online critics, and of course what Adam is working on for future release. So what are you waiting for? Download below to listen to Matthew Goudreau and I drill Adam (ew) for damn near two hours, and get ready for a big retrospective which will end yet another year of Aftertaste airwaves. Oh, if you want to hear what that is, stay tuned until the very end when I give it away.
Thanks to Adam for once again taking the time to Binge with us!
Old friend of Binge Media, Adam Simon, has some exciting stuff brewing in the pot. After the roller coaster ride that was Man Down that included wanting to punch every critic in the dick, Simon put his nose to the grind stone and got back to work. We talked with him about his new partnership with the great Joe Carnahan and Frank Grillo and what the definition of hard work really means.
This column will introduce you to the most popular movies that are coming out in theaters this weekend and why you should go see them. Which one will you see?

Starring in this horror thriller are Aaron Eckhart, Catalina Sandino Moreno (not related), Emjay Anthony (Chef), Keir O’Donnell, and more. Brad Peyton is the director of the film. Jackie tells the story of First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy after the assassination of her husband. Natalie Portman stars as Jackie Kennedy, while the other cast includes, Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt, John Carroll Lynch, and more. Directing this biographical drama is Pablo Larraín. Larraín has only directed Chilean films thus far. So, are you Jacked up for Jackie? Then go check it out this weekend.
Man Down
Reasons to see this:
Written by one of our favorite guests here at Binge Media……Adam Simon. Man Down is about a former Marine who is trying to find his son in a post-apocalyptic America. Starring in this dramatic thriller are Shia LaBeouf, Jai Courtney, Gary Oldman, Kate Mara, Clifton Collins Jr., and more. In the directors chair, is Dito Montiel. Montiel has directed The Son of No One, Fighting, and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (also starring LaBeouf). You can also check out the special Binge Aftertaste, where Garrett and Falvey interview Adam Simon here. Are you Down to see this movie Man. Then hit the theater this weekend.
Welcome to this very special edition of the Binge Movie Aftertaste. As I put the final touches on planning out the next set of retrospectives on this holiday season, I have been in the midst of putting together some special interviews as well. And no interview subject is more important to the Binge airwaves than that of the one and only Adam Simon. Ok, Spielberg. Maybe.
When Jack and I started putting this thing together, we figured we would have Adam on for forty-five minutes, hour tops. Adam was actually gracious enough to give us over eighty minutes of his time, and truth be told, we could have spoken to him longer.
There are many subjects covered here. But first and foremost, Adam speaks about that kick ass trailer which dropped a couple weeks ago for a little movie called Man Down, opening December 2nd. You might have heard of it. The movie was written in Adam’s car as he lived on the streets of a hard ridden LA. Adam talks at length about what it was like jacking pimps to live, all while penning the script to the film that would eventually go on to help buy him a new apartment. A couple years and many shed blood sweat and tears after living on the streets, and Man Down‘s trailer has become the most trended Facebook topic for four days straight.
Want more? How about stories of Adam and his run ins with ‘suits,’ his thoughts on our newly elected President, and what really happened with Synapse. Oh, and what is a podcast with me and Jack without him busting my balls a bit? And when Adam gets involved, it turns into an entire bashing session.
We once again want to thank Adam for taking the time to talk to us, and please be sure to check out Man Down when it is released December 2nd.
Well, this was a real treat. After putting together a retrospective that revolves around Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the last thing I expected is to have a show containing a truly inspirational story. On this special edition of the Binge Movie Aftertaste, I welcome not one, not two, but THREE people who all have such stories to tell.
First, the great Adam Simon makes his by my count 437th appearance on the Binge airwaves. The thing with Simon is he keeps topping himself with each subsequent appearance. There’s a reason we love having him on. The man is extremely personable and approachable. His stories and scripts come from his heart, and he makes sure to bring a RedLine with him to the microphone in order to make sure his tired state keeps up with everybody.
Making his first appearance on Binge Media is the one and only Gustavo Alvarez. Gustavo is open about his former gang life, and how his own mistakes kept him from achieving his long in development career goals. The two people Gustavo thanks for helping him out of the rut are Adam, and my final guest.
Longtime Binge listeners remember my third guest, as also on the line is the amazingly versatile Clifton Collins Jr. Currently filming the HBO miniseries Westworld with Sir Anthony (sorry, Tony) Hopkins, Collins goes into many stories about working with JJ Abrams, Guillermo Del Toro, and the legendary Terrence Malick. He also gives some heart warming insight into why Sam Jackson is a huge part of his life. Hint – if you do not like Jackson by the time this interview is over, then check your pulse.
All three also talk about the rollar coaster of emotions they experienced sponsoring MMA fighter Thor Skancke, how Prison Ramen, a recipe book Collins wrote with Alvarez came about, how their current film collaboration The Pawn came about, and so much more in this special hour plus interview.
Be sure to check out Prison Ramen on Amazon and local bookstores, as well as the Collins starring film Triple 9, in theaters now. And be sure to keep an eye on these airwaves for updates on the further development of The Pawn.
Thank you so much to Alvarez, Simon, and Collins for this incredible interview.
No time to mess around this week, as this is one jam packed show. What does ‘jam packed’ mean, anyway?
Of course, even with a sense of urgency, Jason and I don’t move things any faster. We start things off by talking about our most anticipated movies of the year, with Jason saying Benedict Cumberbatch’s name in a way that needs to be heard to be believed.
After this bit of nonsense, Jason and I get filmmaker Brandon Slagle on the show to speak about all aspects of the business. He mentions how he got his new directorial effort House of Manson distribution, and why he is more proud of this effort than his other films. Slagle also mentions his ‘BFF’ Ben Affleck, and how he feels Ben is going to do in Batman Vs Superman. More things about the action genre are spoken about, and we finally let the very busy Slagle go back to his duties.
Unfortunately, House of Manson is only being distributed in the UK for the time being. But keep an eye out for physical distribution in the US soon. Any UK listeners (ahem, Nate) here is the Amazon UK link to purchase a copy. Despite a pretty off and on Skype reception, this was a very interesting conversation and we look forward to speaking with Brandon again in the future.
But that isn’t all. Much like the action theme of this particular show, the action never stops as I finally get old favorite Adam Simon back on the show to let loose on his current Hollywood thoughts. Oh sure, we speak about how his films Synapse and Man Down are coming along in the distribution department. But we cover even more topics. From his buddy Clifton Collins Jr’s book Prison Ramen to his thoughts on Star Wars: The Force Awakens to even some Oscar talk, there is no topic off limits. Expect more participation of Simon, as well as more about Prison Ramen, in the Aftertaste’s future.
Jason and I close the show off by talking about our own feelings on how the action genre is holding up in today’s climate. Are we in line for even more spandex ladened franchises? Will there be another The Matrix to knock our socks off? Was The Matrix even original?

One more note: You may have noticed a voice at the beginning of these podcasts who introduces each show for me. That gentleman, my Anonymous Announcer Guy as I like to call him, has just started his own podcast about comics, films, and the ilk. Check him out if you have a chance:
