Binge Movie Aftertaste – Friday The 13th Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Mik Duffy: Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) and Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
Friday the 13th is, without a doubt, one of the most notorious movie series of all time. When it made its initial run in the 80s, the movies not only drew the ire of parent/teacher groups around the world. It also was the red headed stepchild in the eyes of Paramount executives. How did the series develop from its inception all the way to the modern day? That is the question myself, Matthew Goudreau, and Mik Duffy will explore in this podcast series.
The late 80s marked the beginning of the end for masked killer Jason Voorhees’s stay at Paramount. First came 1988’s Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Given the green light following a guaranteed booze ladened meeting where the mantra Carrie Vs Jason became the main crux of the story, The New Blood came and went without much of a blip on the horror radar screen. Then came 1989’s Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, a movie where the title character does nothing of the sort.
Listen in as myself, Matt, and Mik watch both the films and determine whether Paramount’s decision was well advised. Also, this viewing marks the very first time Mik has watched The New Blood. How did he like it? Listen below to find out!
