Monday Morning Moreno
Quite a few things went down this past week/weekend. I’m sure of it. I just don’t remember. My head hurts.
Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes
Yesterday we checked out a little Aussie throwback doo wop group called Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes. “Baby Caught the Bus” was one of my favorite albums from last year and the CBBR live show is quickly becoming a must see for music fans of all ages and backgrounds. You get witty banter from the sexy Ms. Browne, choreographed dancing by the Bangin’ Rackettes and a solid backing band. Problem is that the their tour in the States is pretty limited; check out their tour date page to see if there close to you. Seriously, it’s worth at least a 5 hour drive. Haven’t had that much fun at a live show in a while. We danced literally the whole time. Everyone. Just don’t bring any asshole friends who don’t dance. Because your friends don’t dance and if they don’t dance, then they’re no friends of mine.
I love these sexy hoes.
Fargo (mild spoilers)
Fargo is the second new show this year whos season finale divided audiences. True Detective being the other. I’m completely satisfied with both finales. Even though Fargo left some unanswered questions (What happened to to Mute Fella? What’s going to eventually happen with Chaz Nygard?) I felt the story wrapped things up the best way it could. Lester gets his, Malvo gets his, Molly becomes chief and everything goes back to regular life again. Bemidji is a tiny town where virtually nothing happens. Multiple homicides aren’t likely to occur there for a long, long time. This isn’t a setting trend for the small Minnesota town. Back to life, back to reality. That’s a satisfying ending for me. But make no mistake, Gus Grimley is a murderer.
Birdman Trailer
I don’t know what the shit is going on with Birdman, but I’m so there. I’ve always loved Michael Keaton and really hope that this puts him back on the map as a main player. Keaton has always been a solid utility hitter, the guy could do it all, any genre. It looks like Birdman is playing heavy on the dramatic/comedic line, which is where Keaton shines. He hasn’t been as prolific as he was in the 80s/90s, but he was hilarious in The Other Guys a couple of years ago, and even when he shows up in shit, he’s usually the best thing in it. The guy is a powerhouse, can’t wait for this to hit theaters.
TMNT Trailer
I can’t even begin to tell you how fucking dumb this looks. Actually, that’s a perfect beginning. I don’t know what’s with everyone’s suspended adolescence, but I just don’t see why anything from my childhood making it to the big screen is a big deal. I watched the show growing up, my brothers and I watched the first movie a lot, which I think is a big reason that despite my instinctual response to defecate on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or any turtle really), my interest is oddly piqued by this. I might have to have an impromptu Uncle Moreno night with my nephew, grab some pizza and beer and hit the theaters when this is released. I say that now but I drink a lot and we’ll likely forget.
It’s mornings like this that make me want to stick my head under a truck tire. Or beat it with a hammer. Speaking of, check out this cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” by the very sexy artist, Maiysha. I’m gonna go lay down now.
