PETEMSEE IT THIS WEEKEND – 11/10/16
This column will introduce you to the most popular movies that are coming out in theaters this weekend and why you should go see them. Which one will you see?
Arrival
Reasons to see this:
This flick is about a linguist who is recruited by the government to communicate with aliens. Starring in this Sci-Fi mystery is Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Michael Stuhlbarg, Forest Whitaker, and more. Denis Villeneuve arrives as director. Villeneuve has directed Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, and is also directing Blade Runner 2049 for 2017. Want Sci-Fi this weekend? Then depart your house and arrive at the theater.
Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk
Reasons to see this:
When a soldier returns home from Iraq, Billy Lynn realizes the contrast between the realties of war and the perception of the American people. Using flashbacks as a storytelling device, we see what really happened to Billy Lynn’s squad. Starring in this War Drama is Kristen Stewart, Vin Diesel, Garrett Collins, I mean Garrett Hedlund, Steve Martin, (yup, that Steve Martin), Chris Tucker, Tim Blake Nelson, and more. Ang Lee returns as director for this flick. Ang Lee’s last 4 directorial films are Hulk, Brokeback Moutnain, Taking Woodstock, and Life of Pi. Take a long walk to the theater and check out this flick.
The Monster (limited release)
Reasons to see this:
Finally, a horror movie on Halloween weekend. Dammit. A little to late. Anyway, The Monster is about a monster who terrorizes a mother and her daughter when their car breaks down on a deserted road. The cast is small and pretty unknown(caller), except Scott Speedman (The Strangers). Speaking of The Strangers; Bryan Bertino is the director of The Monster, who also directed The Strangers. He has also directed a movie called Mockingbird in 2014. Don’t be a monster, go see The Monster.
Shut In
Reasons to see this:
Shut In is about a child psychologist who must try to save a young boy from disappearing, forever…..I think. I am not really sure what this movie is. The cast are Naomi Watts, Oliver Platt, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Jacob Tremblay (Room), and more. Directing this thriller is Farren Blackburn, who has directed a ton of TV, such as Daredevil, Luther, Doctor Who and more. Don’t stay in this weekend, go see Shut In instead.
