PETEMSEE IT THIS WEEKEND – 9/15/16
This column will introduce you to the most popular movies that are coming out in theaters this weekend and why you should go see them. Which one will you see?
Blair Witch
Reasons to see this:
Blair Witch 2….or 3. I guess it depends on whether or not you count Book of Shadows. Anyway, this sequel is about Heather’s (the girl from the first movie) younger brother, who goes back into the woods to investigate her disappearance. The cast seems to have several unknowns (unknowwwn cawla) as the leads. However, James Allen McCune seems to be the most familiar cast mate, playing roles in shows such as The Walking Dead and Shameless. Adam Wingard directs this horror flick. Wingard has directed You’re Next, a few segments in V/H/S 1 & 2, and The Guest. It has also been announced that he is set to direct the I Saw the Devil remake. Go find the Blair Witch in theaters this weekend.
Bridget Jones’s Baby
Reasons to see this:
Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth are back for the 3rd installment of the “Bridget” franchise. In this movie, Bridget finds out that she is pregnant, however, she does not know who the father is. Dun Dun Dun. Additional cast members include, Emma Thompson and Patrick Dempsey. Directing this Baby is Sharon Maguire (no relation to Jerry). She has also directed Bridget Jones’s Diary. See who the father is this weekend.
The Good Neighbor
Reasons to see this:
This thriller is about 2 high school kids who trick an old hermit into believing that his house is haunted, while keeping him under surveillance. James Cann, Logan Miller (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse), and Keir Gilchrist (It Follows) are the three leads. Kasra Farahani is the director of this film. This is Farahani’s first major directorial release. His work mostly consists of concept artist and art department for films such as, Munich, Spider-Man 3, Hancock, and Avatar. Stop throwing parties at your house this weekend. Be a good neighbor and see The Good Neighbor at a theater near you.
Mr. Church
Reasons to see this:
Did you know Eddie Murphy is in a dramatic movie this weekend? Neither did I. Eddie Murphy plays Mr. Church, a talented cook who is hired to help a little girl and her dying mother. They soon develop a great relationship that lasts a long time. Also starring in this drama is Britt Robinson (Tomorrowland), Madison Wolfe (The Conjuring 2), Lucy Fry (11.22.63), and more. Directing is Bruce Beresford, who has directed Driving Miss Daisy, Double Jeopardy, and many more. Now, go to church or see Mr. Church this weekend.
Snowden
Reasons to see this:
This is not about a group of kids, stuck in their homes due to the weather. Get it? Snowed in! Whatever. This biographical drama is about Edward Snowden, who leaked classified documents to the press. J Gordy Levs plays Edward Snowden, while the rest of the cast includes, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Rhys Ifans, Shailene Woodley, Tom Wilkinson, and Nicolas Cage. In the directors chair, we have Oliver Stone, who also co-wrote the screenplay. We know Oliver’s work, but here are his last 4 directorial films: World Trade Center, W., Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and Savages. Don’t get snowed in this weekend, get out of the house and see Snowden.
