PETEMSEE IT THIS WEEKEND – 6/16/16
This column will introduce you to the most popular movies that are coming out in theaters this weekend and why you should go see them. Which one will you see?
Central Intelligence
Reasons to see this:
Who doesn’t love a buddy cop movie? Especially one starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart. The Rock plays a CIA agent who takes his old high school friend(Hart) for the ride of his life. This kind of sounds like the Adam Sandler/David Spade Netflix flick, The Do-Over. Anyway, Central Intelligence is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. Thurber has directed comedy movies before, such as, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and We’re the Millers. Also starring is, Amy Ryan and Aaron Paul bitch. This is the only comedy being released this weekend, so, if you are in need of a laugh, go C. It. Ay. Awful joke.
Clown (limited release)
Reasons to see this:
If you didn’t fill your horror crave with The Conjuring 2, then there is another June horror release for you. Clown is about a father who takes matters into his own hands, when the clown he hired for his son’s birthday party doesn’t show up. Luckily he has a clown costume at his disposal. However, this costume is not just any costume. DUN DUN DUNNNN. This clown costume starts to change him and become part of him and vice versa. The cast is pretty unknown except, Peter Stormare(Fargo, The Big Lebowski) who’s character is the one that knows why everything is happening to the father. Eli Roth is one of the 8 producers on the film, but he does not have a writing credit, in case you were wondering. Directing is Jon Watts, who directed Kevin Bacons’ thriller, “Cop Car” last year and will be taking the helm of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Stop clowning around this summer and get to the theater.
Finding Dory
Reasons to see this:
In 2003, a little movie called Finding Nemo was released. 13 years later, we are now getting the sequel to that movie, Finding Dory. The story will center around, you guessed it, Dory, the amnesiac fish who’s trying to find her family and perhaps herself. This is a Pixar production and is written and directed by Andrew Stanton, who also directed Nemo. Andrew Stanton has also directed, A Bug’s Life, Wall-E, and John Carter. The voice cast is huge, so I will only name a few: Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, and more. Finding Dory will be the 5th sequel in the Pixar universe. Go find Dory.
Swiss Army Man (limited release)
Reasons to see this:
Have you heard about that farting corpse movie, starring Harry Potter? Well, this is it. Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe star in this offbeat Dramedy about, Hank(Dano), a stranded man on an island, who finds Manny(Radcliffe) washed up on shore. Together, they will try to find their way home, in many strange and unbelievable ways. The title says it all. Do you need an axe to chop a tree trunk? Oh, you don’t have one? Well, why don’t you use your “Swiss Army Man” to do the trick. Don’t believe me? Watch the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrK1f4TsQfM
Tickled (limited release)
Reasons to see this:
Tickled is a documentary about competitive tickling. David Farrier, who directs this doc, is a journalist who finds the competition online. As he investigates and goes deeper into the phenomenon of the competition, things aren’t as they seem. If this tickles your fancy, sign up for the competition….or just watch it.
