Binge Movie Aftertaste w/ Robert Kouba; Catching up w/ the lovely Jason Morris
After a slight deter, the Binge Movie Aftertaste is back. And boy, do we have a jam packed show full of interviews, trailer talk, premiere talk, contest talk, and general buffoonery. Firstly, Moreno and I intro this week’s special Aftertaste guest, 22 year old Swiss director Robert Kouba. After mentioning his early years, which consisted of filming his dog out of boredom, Kouba talks about making a short film and experiencing the film festival circuit at the age of 12. Kouba affirms plans to move to LA from his home country of Switzerland, and then reveals he wants to see much more of the United States when he is here.
We then get into Kouba’s new film Aurora. An epic looking science fiction/love story, Kouba has obviously put all his influences and heart into the film. He talks about what his experience of doing the Aurora Kickstarter campaign was like, and how he keeps his composure while working with experienced actors. All this plus another spin on the King of Hollywood game, who Robert’s dream actor and actress to work with is, and much more are revealed in this interesting interview with a true visionary. Watch the trailer to his brand new film Aurora (which opens July 7th), and wait for this kid’s talent cause him to explode onto the Hollywood scene.
After the interview, Moreno and I spend some time talking Kouba up even more, especially how grounded he seemed despite the accomplishments he has already gathered in his young career. Speaking of young careers (not really) we then welcome the lovely Jason Morris back to the Binge Movie Aftertaste. Morris explains his months long absence away by talking about what it was like directing his brand new film called Collapse. Written by Edward Martin III (Through The Night), Morris talks about how the script called for people to be hauled up in a cabin while being surrounded by fog induced spirits. No, DON’T call it The Mist II!
We then move on to the two blockbuster trailers released this week. Between the three of us, I seem to be the most enthused over Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and all letters about Morris’s comments concerning the final shot of the trailer should be directed to him as they do NOT reflect the opinions of most Binge Media staffers. With that out of the way, we spend a small amount of time talking about the Batman Vs Superman trailer. Ok, I talk about it, as my two co-hosts did not bother watching it. A hint as to how I feel about it, I kind of wish I had joined them.
Finally, we get to the business of talking about the upcoming premiere of Teddy Gyi’s film Refuge. In addition to talking about the event itself -which will be held on April 24th in San Francisco- I reveal how people in the Northern California/San Francisco area can win tickets to the premiere, as well as posters attached to the tickets. Contest details are spoken about in the actual podcast, so if you would like to join us in watching the movie and win two tickets & four posters, listen and find out how. Hint: It is VERY easy.
We close the show out by talking some more about the 30 For 30 documentary I Hate Christian Laettner, and Morris for some reason brings up the trailer to the brand new Star Wars: Battlefront video game. A game he will, in his words, never play.
Don’t forget: Robert Kouba’s film Aurora hits screens on July 7th. Plans are already underway to have both him and an actress from the film on the podcast as the release date inches closer.
For fun, check out the Transformers fan film trailer Kouba made for $200 a few years ago. Better than Bay?
