(Working On A Title) Wednesday – College Kids/Towns, The Snow Is Melting, The Wind and The Wave
Fucking College Kids/Towns
So if you listened this week’s BingeCast you know that Moreno and I traversed a couple states to go catch J Roddy Walston and The Business in Lansing, MI. What we weren’t anticipating was this being a college show. We would have thought things through a little more. After engaging in an all day preparty we were halfway through the show as Sleepwalkers ended (they were pretty solid, you should check them out) and things were good, until they got stupid. Stupid fucking college kids with the bro mentality at a rock show where they just don’t give a fuck about anyone around them, AT ALL. Almost got into 3 fights in the course of 35 minutes. Then couldn’t find a decent bar nearby without running into a herd of young 20 year olds hopped up on adrenaline, Monster and who knows what else. And the next morning almost every damn restaurant in town was closed. Are you fucking kidding me? YOU’RE A COLLEGE TOWN.
We ended up at a greasy spoon, which wasn’t actually that great, the best thing was the cinnamon raisin toast. How do you fuck up greasy breakfast food Lansing, how? Yes I know I’m sounding old and cranky and maybe I am, or maybe you kids today just need to learn a little bit of etiq… nope, that sounds cranky too. Well fuck it, maybe I just need to find a different spot at a concert, one not in the first 50 feet of the stage. Or maybe people can just say excuse me. And the good diners can be open when it’s convenient for me. Alright, enough with the negative shit, has anyone noticed that…
THE FUCKING SNOW IS MELTING!!
I wish that would say “HAS MELTED” but unfortunately we got a bunch late and it’s taking more then a couple 40 and 50 degree days to melt all this shit, but it’s getting there. Also when we speak next it will be Spring and I for one and pretty damn excited. Golf courses reopen, Disc Golf courses reopen, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and back to grilling most of our meals. Funny how in 2 short weeks I went from yelling about winter to gleefully talking about Spring. Yes, that word is gleefully and it was the first one that popped in my head. Don’t ask me why.
The Wind and The Wave
I was late to this party (thanks to Moreno I finally made it) but I am becoming a VERY big fan of From The Wreckage, the debut album from the The Wind and The Wave. A little duo from Texas that I would describe as a cleaner/poppy flipside to Shovels and Rope. I’ve only been able to give it a few listens (such as while I’m writing this) but I enjoy what I’m hearing and look forward to some quality time where I can really soak it in. I recommend it especially if you like the lighter side of folk/rock/country/pop.
That’ll do it for this week. Don’t forget to leave any comments below and follow me on Twitter @jekupka. Until next time, I leave you with this. You’re welcome.
