(Working On A Title) Wednesday -Winter, Hottie Fantasy League, Kid Rock

Winter

Let’s clear something up. We live on a planet where the majority of us reside in areas that experience these things called seasons and if you’re lucky enough, you get to experience all four of them like I do. So during the time of year, let’s say middle of November through the middle of March, where the Northern Hemisphere is furthest from the sun it’s gonna get a bit cooler, some may actually say it gets cold. THIS HAPPENS EVERY FUCKING YEAR. Get a warm coat, some gloves, a hat, and maybe even a scarf and shut the fuck up. I get it, it’s not 90, you know how I know? Because you’re not complaining that it’s too hot. That and I can see my breath when I’m outside. If I have to listen to one more person talk about how cold they are I may actually stab them. If you don’t like it move, to the equator, because if you haven’t been paying attention even states south of the Mason/Dixon are getting their fair share of wind, rain, snow, and ice. This isn’t anything new and it’s never gonna stop, well so far as I can tell so dress warm, shut the fuck up, deal with it and move on. There are far more important things to bitch about.

The Hottie Fantasy League

I did not win, but n the plus side I had the second highest point getter in it’s inaugural year. However, you add that and two big fat fucking zeros and you know what you get? Being able to say you didn’t finish in dead last among the staff. Now I think the Hottie Fantasy League is a good thing but I think it can be better. For those of you who listened when our good buddy Matches Malone and I did Reels, Racks, Records, and Rants (The 4R Podcast), we also thought it would be a good idea to have a movie related fantasy league but unfortunately it never came to fruition. Well I think I may have found a way to make something that’s good even better. The major problem with the current format is the amount of entries and viable options and I think the final standings show that perfectly. Now what I’m about to propose would essentially change it from a Hottie Fantasy League to a Movie Fantasy League, and while I’m perfectly okay with that others may not be, but that’s why I’m writing about it so y’all can discuss. Basically it would break down much like a football fantasy league:

QB – Movie
WR – Actor
WR – Actor
RB – Actress
RB – Actress
RB/WR – Actor/Actress
Defense – Movie
Kicker – Movie

Make sense? Good. How does this make things better? I believe it will create a much tighter race where the point system (which works just as it did for the HFL) will really make the entire year, and especially awards season, that much more exciting. I mean, I don’t know about you, but after about September did anyone really even give a shit, aside from Said? I know I didn’t. Think about it, the first 4 picks could be Star Wars, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford. Those first 4 people IMMEDIATELY feel much better about this season then they do all of last season. Fuck, we can even get real crazy and change one of those slots to Director making things even more fun. So that’s my idea, if folks like it great, if not, oh well, just thought it would make for a much more interested, interactive, and shit talking league than we had this year.

Kid Rock – First Kiss

While writing this week’s entry I’ve been listening to Kid Rock’s new album First Kiss which dropped this past Tuesday. While it definitely isn’t anything to write home about I think it’s been one of his better efforts of recent memory. It feels more complete and flows fairly well although I really don’t hear a true radio single, which is okay. At this point in his career I think you either like him or you don’t. I am one who does. I’ve been listening to him since the late 90’s when he started getting some radio play and quickly found him to be a very talented artist who is able to cross many musical lines. The man has made albums that have covered the genres of rap, rock, country, and at times even blended them together. During the last decade plus, however, he’s been concentrating more on the rock n’ roll/country sound and although alienating some fans in doing so has still been quite successful. So if you’re a fan of his I think you’ll enjoy the new album and if not, I’ll try to find something better for you next time.
