Fantasy Football Insanity, Edge of Tomorrow and Weddingmageddon
With week two coming to a close as I write this, I thank the glorious gods of the NFL that my FF teams haven’t been ravaged by the unlucky injuries and stud departures of the past week. I can’t explain to you how happy I am that I dodged AP, AJ Green and Ryan Matthews, all three of which I had on my wishlist in both leagues. It really is astounding just how much damage has been done to players over the course of the first two weeks of the season, but hopefully that levels off soon. I love the game and absolutely have some hate for a few select teams, but I hate to see these guys get hurt…actually, I don’t really care. These guys are making millions, and they’ll heal up/find a new line of work/sponsor to get more cash. So lon gas my Patriots don’t get hit too hard, I’m all good.
So I finally got around to seeing Edge of Tomorrow this week. I’m a fan. It’s rare that we see movies that are able to seamlessly integrate the action into the main plot of the story. On top of that, the pacing and energy of the film was absolutely kinetic, offering some sort of action at almost every single moment. I was really impressed at the fact that despite the story hinging on the idea that the characters have to continuously repeat the same things over and over again the film never loses energy or confused me. I always knew when and where Cruise’s Cage was in his repetition which helped drive the story forward. All in all, one of the year’s best without question, and it’ll sit somewhere in my top 10 for the summer, no doubt. 8 on 10.
This past weekend was a wedding I had been dreading for months: Weddingmageddon. Weddingmageddon was a two-day marathon of a pair of 10-hour weddings, assisting the photographer and getting a pretty good workout. Working one wedding can be taxing, working two can borderline kill you. The job has almost nothing to do with the people at the wedding, as they’re always manageable. The real test is your stamina and endurance. Chances are good that, if you’re a guy, you’re wearing a black suit, and if you’re moving around in a suit, you tend to sweat. If it’s hot outside, you tend to sweat more, and if you need to pose people in direct sunlight for a couple hours, you sweat even more. Again, a difficult enough job is a single wedding, but when you have them on back-to-back days you end up straining muscles you didn’t even realize you had. For instance, my inner thighs are aching horribly today, my feet feel like I had a wedge under my heel and my right arm feels like someone punched it for a few hours straight, and I was only assisting. Most people have no idea how hard it is to photograph or videotape a wedding, but I’m here to tell you it absolutely is. Now, I’m not saying I’d take active duty to wedding photography or videography, but I’m saying for the average person (i.e. me) it’s a tough job. I’m ecstatic it’s over and hope I never have to do it again.
That’s it, this week was dry and full of work/school, so it is what it is. They can’t all be winners. Hear my luscious voice on the Boardwalk and Strain commentaries this week, and as always Binge On!
