(Working on a Title) Wednesday – Carol Kane, Shovels & Rope
While working off this weekends hangover I decided to throw on one of my all favorite flicks Transylvania 6-5000. Now while it may have an IMDB rating of 4.8 on 10 I find it highly entertaining and highly recommend it. One of the reasons I like it is for Carol Kane and her role as the maid Lupi. Then I got to thinking of a few of my other favorite movies where she is a highlight for me, and here they are.
Transylvania 6-5000
The movie itself is a comedic horror story of 2 reporters who get sent to Transylvania to find proof of Frankenstein. It also features very young versions of Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr., and Geena Davis. Like I said above, Kane plays a maid in the film and wife to John Byner’s Butler character. I do really love this movie and watch it every couple of years, here’s one of my favorite scenes featuring Kane and Byner
Scrooged
Next up is possibly my favorite Christmas movie of all time. A 26 year old modern telling of A Christmas Carol starring Bill Murray that no matter how many times I watch it, “Niagra Falls Frankie Angel”. Every. Damn. Time. Not when Kane is on the screen though. Just like the other two films on this list she’s in a comedic role. In this one she plays The Ghost of Christmas Present who happens to, “like the rough stuff”.
The Princess Bride
Alright, if you know me at all you know that my no bullshit, number one favorite movie of all time is The Princess Bride. So why wouldn’t Kane be in it, sharing the screen with comedic legend Billy Crystal no less. In this film she plays Valerie the wife of Miracle Max (Crystal) and calls him out on some bullshit when Westley needs him the most. I love this scene.
Shovels & Rope
Last week Shovels & Rope released the second album on Dualtone records entitled Swimmin’ Time and I’m telling you this so you don’t miss it. Shovel’s and Rope have a little something for everyone, country, blues, folk, rock and even a little punk. They just started touring to support their album and I’ll be catching them October 2nd at the Vic Theater in Chicago. You can check to see if they are playing your area here. In the meantime enjoy the first single from the new album.
That’ll do it for this week. As always any comments, questions, or concerns can be left below. You can always follow me on twitter @jekupka and until next week I leave you with this…
